AI Use Policy

AI Use Policy - IONTech
Main Policy, Tolerance Limit & Consequences of Violation

IONTECH Journal recognizes the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic publishing. This policy ensures that AI is used ethically, responsibly, and transparently, while preserving scientific integrity and human accountability.

Main Policy:
    • Use AI as a tool, not a replacementc — AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grammarly, or Quillbot can assist with grammar, spelling, formatting, simple visualizations, or basic data analysis. Do not rely on AI to write entire manuscripts or draw scientific conclusions. Authors must provide critical thinking and data interpretation.
    • Ensure accuracy and validity — AI may produce incorrect or biased information (“hallucinations”). All AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed before inclusion in the manuscript.
    • Beware of plagiarism and copyright issues — AI may generate text similar to other publications. Always cross-check with plagiarism detection tools. Do not copy copyright-protected content from AI without permission.
    • Transparency and disclosure — Any AI assistance beyond basic editing must be disclosed, e.g., in Methods or Acknowledgments.
    • Ethics and accountability — Authors remain fully responsible legally and academically for the manuscript. AI cannot be listed as an author or contributor.
    • Additional notes — AI can support brainstorming or preliminary literature searches but cannot replace a critical manual literature review.
Tolerance Limit & Consequences of Violation :
  • Tolerance Limits
  • AI for basic editing (grammar, spelling, formatting) → Fully allowed, as long as authors review the changes.
  • AI for basic analysis or simple visualizations → Allowed with human supervision; minor errors can be corrected by authors.
  • AI for writing substantial content (manuscripts, conclusions, data interpretation) → Generally discouraged. Authors should always provide critical thinking and verify content.
  • Mandatory disclosure → Any AI assistance beyond basic editing should be disclosed. Minor omissions may be tolerated but should be corrected promptly.
  • Consequences of Violations
  • Minor violation (e.g., forgetting to disclose AI for small edits): Editors may request clarification or revisions.
  • Major violation (e.g., AI writes large parts of the manuscript or fabricates data):
    • Manuscript may be rejected before publication.
    • Retraction may occur if detected after publication.
    • Formal warning may be issued, and institutions may be notified if necessary.
